Turmeric Tea

*Makes 4 small teacup servings or 2 mugfuls*

I love starting my day with this tea because turmeric has excellent anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, and the spices warm you right up. I especially get a yen for it when the weather cools and the cold/flu season starts strolling in. And when I think a cold is coming on, I make this tea. A few cups later, I feel fine. Can’t prove it in court, but I’m saying it’s the healing power of turmeric tea. And the cayenne is also a winner when you’re under the weather – it clears those sinuses right up. If you wanna be a real badass, you can add a thumbnail’s worth of minced fresh ginger – but you have to mean business, because the taste is INTENSE.
2 cups nondairy milk (I prefer unsweetened coconut milk, but any nut milk will do)
1 teaspoon ground turmeric
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon honey or agave
Thumbnail’s worth minced fresh ginger (optional)
Pinch of cayenne pepper (optional)
Put all the ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth. Pour into a saucepan over medium and heat until hot but not boiling (about 3 to 5 minutes). Pour into teacups or mugs and drink while it’s hot.
